The above age divisions apply to Solos, Duos, and Troupe Sections.
Duo and Trio entries will compete in the age group of the oldest competitor as of January 1 2027.
Troupe Sections will be divided into Small Groups and Large Groups based on the number of performers. The average age of all competitors in the routine as of January 1 2027 will determine the age division. The oldest dancer in the troupe may only compete one age division below their own age division.
Small Groups: 4 - 12 performers
Large Groups: 13+ performers
Nova Dance Championships reserves the right to combine, split, or further divide sections where necessary to ensure a fair and competitive competition experience.

Nova Dance Championships offers two competition levels to provide a fair and supportive experience for solo competitors while recognising different levels of competitive achievement.
Designed for solo competitors working towards their first major competitive success. Debut stars provides an encouraging and supportive environment for dancers to build confidence, gain valuable stage experience, and celebrate their progress as performers.
First-Year Soloists

No Previous Overall 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Placings
Designed for solo competitors who have achieved competitive success in their chosen style. Premier Stars provides a platform for accomplished dancers to showcase their artistry, talent, and technique in a competitive environment.

Debut Stars: For soloists competing in their first year of solo competition, or soloists who have never placed at any competition in any style.
Premier Stars: For soloists who have been competing for more than one year and have received a placing at a previous competition in any style.
In 2027, Debut Stars and Premier Stars will only be offered to soloists competing in Classical, Jazz, and Lyrical categories. Additional styles may be introduced based on demand.
Competing in Debut is not compulsory.
It is designed to encourage and support soloists who are new to solo competition or who have not yet achieved a placing, while providing an opportunity to build confidence and experience.

For Duos & Trios, the age division is determined by the age of the oldest competitor as of January 1 2027.

Absolutely! Competing in Debut Stars is not compulsory. We encourage dancers to to select the level that appropriately challenges them. Competitors may choose to enter a higher level when they’re ready to do so.

Yes! Debut Stars is intended to provide an oppurtunity for dancers who are still developing their solo competition experience and have not achieved a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd placing in any style, at any competition.
