Eligibility:

Competition Divisions:

Novice Division

2.1. The Novice Division is intended for competitors who are new to solo competitions within a particular style.

2.2. To be eligible for the Novice Division, a competitor must:

  • Have never placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in a solo routine in that style in any competition; and

  • Meet all other eligible requirements outlined in these Rules & Regulations.

2.3. Competitors who have placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in a solo routine in a particular style are no longer eligible to compete in the Novice Division for that style.

Open Division

2.4. The Open Division is open to all eligible competitors.

2.5. Competitors who are ineligible for the Novice Division must compete in the Open Division.

Age Divisions:

Troupes:

3.3. Troupe age divisions will be determined by average age of all performers in the routine.

3.4. To calculate the average age, add the ages of all performers and divide by the number of performers. Any decimal will be rounded down to the nearest whole number.

3.5. Competitors may be older than the age category entered, provided the average age of the routine remains within the eligible age range and the following maximum ages are observed:

Minis | Under 6 years | Oldest competitor may be 7 years

Petites | Under 8 years | Oldest competitor may be 10 years

Juniors | Under 10 years | Oldest competitor may be 12 years

Interss | Under 12 years | Oldest competitor may be 14 years

Pre-Seniorg | Under 14 years | Oldest competitor may be 16 years

Seniorss | Under 16 years | Oldest competitor may be 17 years

Any Troupe that includes a competitor over the age of 18 must compete in Open Age.

3.6. Nova Dance Championships reserves the right to request proof of age for any competitor at any time.

3.7. Nova Dance Championships reserves the right to reclassify any routine entered in an incorrect age category.

Entries & Registrations:

4.1. All entries must be submitted through Comp Admin Pro and will only be accepted upon receipt of full payment.

4.2. Entries close on the advertised closing date or earlier if the competition reaches capacity.

4.3. Late entries may be accepted at the discretion of Nova Dance Championships and may incur a late entry fee.

4.4. Competitors, parents, or studio representatives are responsible for ensuring all entry information is accurate at the time of submission.

4.5. Nova Dance Championships reserves the right to amend, cancel, combine, divide, or reclassify any schedule or section where neccesary.

Fees, Refunds, & Withdrawals:

5.1. Entry fees are non-refundable once submitted.

5.2. Competitors unable to attend because of illness or injury may be eligible for a refund upon submission of a valid medial certificate.

5.3. Competition dates are published in advance. Competitors must be available for the duration of the event, as sections may be scheduled at any time.

5.4. Nova Dance Championships is not responsible for change of mind, scheduling conflicts, or failure to attend the event.

5.5. Unpaid entries will not be accepted or reserve a place in the competition.

Genres & Sections:

6.1. Competitors may enter one or more genres, provided they meet all eligibility requirements outlined in these Rules & Regulations.

6.2. Competitors are responsible for entering in the genre that appropriately reflects the style and choreography of their routine.

6.3. Nova Dance Championships reserves the right to cancel, combine, divide, or reclassify any genre or section where necessary.

6.4. Competitors may not enter more than one solo routine in the same genre, regardless of age category or division.

6.5. The following genres are offered at Nova Dance Champions:

  • Acrobatics

  • Character

  • Classical Ballet

  • Contemporary

  • Hip Hop

  • Jazz (including Broadway & Commercial Jazz)

  • Lyrical

  • Musical Theatre

  • Neo-Classical

  • Tap

Music & Time Limits:

Rules & Regulations

By submitting an entry all attendees, including competitors, parents, and studio representatives acknowledge that they have read, understood, and agree to abide by the Nova Dance Championships Rules & Regulations.

1.1. Nova Dance Championships is an amateur dance competition opened to amateur performers only.

1.2. Competitors enrolled in full-time dance, performing arts, or pre-professional training programs are not eligible to compete.

1.3. Competitors contracted or employed as professional dancers on an ongoing basis are not eligible to compete.

1.4. Nova Dance Championships reserves the right to determine the eligibility of a competitor.

Solos / Duos / Trios

3.1. Solo competitors must compete in the age division corresponding to their age as of 1 January in the competition year.

3.2. Duo / Trio age divisions will be determined by average age of all performers in the routine.

7.1. All music must be age-appropriate and free from swearing, offensive language, or inappropriate content. Any routine performed with music that breaches this rule may have the music stopped immediately and the routine will not be permitted to continue.

7.2. Music must be uploaded through the Comp Admin Pro by the advertised closing date. Competitors and studios are responsible for ensuring the correct music file has been uploaded.

7.3. Music files must be clearly labelled with the competitor’s or studio name, along with the routine title.

7.4. Competitors and studios should have a backup copy of their music available should it be required on the day.

7.5. If music is interrupted by a technical issue, competitors will have the opportunity to restart their performance.

Time Limits:

  • Solos / Duos / Trios - 3 minutes

  • Troupes - 5 minutes

Solos:

This award will be presented to a Novice Division Soloist who shows confidence, great potential, and promise for the future.

Excellence In Technique Award

This award will be presented to a dancer who displays outstanding technical ability, including strength, precision, execution, and control.

Outstanding Stage Presence Award

This award will be presented to a dancer who captivates the audience through confidence, expression, and performance quality.

Duos / Trios:

Exceptional Teamwork Award

This award will be presented to a duo / trio that work seamlessly together, demonstrating strong connection, synchronisation, and teamwork throughout their performance.

Troupes:

Most Entertaining Troupe Award

This award will be presented to a routine that leaves a lasting impression through creative storytelling, engaging performance, and the ability to connect with the audience.

Special awards will be selected by the adjudicator and presented during the final awards presentation.

Captivating Presentation Award

This award will be presented to a routine whose characterisation, costuming, and overall presentation enhance the performance and create a memorable visual impact.

Rising Star Award

Adjudicator’s Choice Award:

This award will be presented to a routine selected by the adjudicator for its creativity, performance, technique, or a special quality that stood out during the performance.
